Shirakawa-gō
In 2008 when I was in Japan my host family took me to a village called Shirakawa-gō which is one of the most incredible places I have ever been to. The houses in the village have thatched roofs that easily withstand a lot of snow. The village is surrounded by woods and to get their one must travel on a new highway that involves some of the longest tunnels I have seen. All of these pictures were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 5700.
